Rakomelo

When winter comes in eumelia, two things you will find next to the fire place: chestnuts from Parnonas mountain and rakomelo! The hot alcohol keeps us warm and the honey gives us the energy to continue…drinking! And when all the ingredients are organic we drink with less guilt. Besides, The Guardian also advocates that rakomelo is one of the “10 of the best warming winter drinks around the world”

Ingredients

  • 100 ml of organic Domain Ligas raki
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves buds
  • orange peels from 1/4 of an organic orange
  • 35 gr honey

Instructions

Cut the orange part of the peel with a knife avoiding the white part. Do not grate it, cut two or three stripes from 1/4 of the orange.

Put the raki in a small pot and add all the spicies and the orange peels. Warm it in low heat for 5 minutes stirring with a wooden spoon. Do not bring to boil, the alcohol will evaporate.

When it’s hot add the honey, stir it well to disolve and remove from fire.

Strain it and pour it to a ceramic or glass pitcher. Serve it in shot glasses.

Drink it hot and slowly!
